How We Review Products

Our methodology, criteria, and commitment to honest, research-based recommendations — last updated July 2026

Core principle: Every product reviewed on this site is evaluated through the same research-based process — aggregated ingredient research, manufacturer disclosures, published clinical studies, and verified owner/user feedback compiled from multiple independent sources. We never publish reviews based on press kits or manufacturer marketing copy alone. Affiliate relationships do not influence ratings.

Our Review Process

1

Product Selection

We identify products based on reader requests, market research, and category relevance. We prioritize products that ship to the US.

2

Source Documentation

We gather manufacturer specifications, ingredient panels, clinical study references, and official product imagery directly from the brand or its verified affiliate network.

3

Structured Research

Every product follows the same structured evaluation protocol (described below), applied consistently regardless of affiliate relationship.

4

Research & Sources

Active ingredients are researched against published studies. We link to primary sources (PubMed, FDA, peer-reviewed journals) where relevant.

5

Rating & Writing

Carol rates each product on defined criteria (detailed below) and writes the review in plain, first-person voice — including what the research and user feedback show didn't work alongside what did.

6

Review Updates

Reviews are updated when formulas change, products are discontinued, pricing shifts significantly, or new evidence emerges. Update dates are visible on every page.

7

Complaint & Legitimacy Check

As of July 2026, every review includes a dedicated section compiling the most commonly reported complaints and drawbacks for that product, alongside a plain answer on where and how to verify you're buying from a legitimate, authorised seller.

Sleep Supplement Review Criteria

Evaluation window: 6 weeks of tracked, aggregated feedback. Most sleep supplements and adaptogens require 3–4 weeks of consistent use before producing measurable effects, so we weight reported results accordingly and treat shorter feedback windows as inconclusive.

Rating Scale

Editorial Independence

Sleep Better After 50 participates in affiliate programs including Digistore24, Commission Factory, and Awin. When you purchase through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Our affiliate relationships do not influence ratings. We have published reviews with ratings below 4.0 for products where we have affiliate arrangements, and we have declined to promote products that didn't meet our standards after research.

Products are never ranked higher because they pay higher commissions. Our primary obligation is to the women reading this site who are trying to sleep better — not to any brand.
